Both Sunday Morning Services

January 7th, 2019

Dear River Valley,

I am excited to announce that Steve Meek is transitioning from Pastor of Family Ministry to Executive Pastor. This change is effective immediately.

Steve’s leadership will provide tremendous effectiveness in all areas of ministry within our church. The role of an Executive Pastor (EP) is indispensable in a church of our size. The EP primarily serves to implement the vision of the lead pastor and elders, implement internal policies and procedures, and to lead and develop the staff.

River Valley Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus who love one another and impact the world with the gospel. That is our vision. It is what we are aiming at. This requires not only a significant strategy, but someone to implement it on every level. Steve’s gifts as both a strategist and an implementer are obvious to our elders and everyone on staff. He is passionate about systems and seeing those systems put into place so that things function as they should.
River Valley currently has seventeen full or part-time paid staff positions. These positions are filled by highly competent leaders who are eager to be challenged and developed as individuals and as a team. The EP assists them in setting goals and implementing ministry strategies. In doing so, the EP creates synergy so that ministries do not function independent of one another and fail to achieve the overall mission of our church.

I am confident that Steve is the right person for this role and have already begun to see his impact in these areas.

In addition, this week we will begin a nationwide search for a Pastor of Family Ministry. That position evolved under Steve’s leadership and therefore our search will be broader than before. In the meantime, our family ministry is in great hands with Calie Eberly (Kids Ministry Coordinator) and Emily Langness (Kids Ministry Administrator), and as Executive Pastor, Steve will provide continuity and oversight.

Thank you for praying for our staff as this transition takes place. While change is not always easy, or expected, I remain fully confident in God’s grace and faithfulness to our church.

Pastor Mark
