Go therefore and make disciples...

Matthew 28:19a

As a church whose mission is to, Glorify God by making disciples of Jesus who love one another and impact the world with the gospel, we take the Great Commission in Matthew 28 very seriously. Because of this, we are excited to offer Midweek discipleship opportunities for kids, students and adults on Wednesday evenings. Adult discipleship will include classes in the River Valley School of Discipleship as well as men’s and women’s bible studies. We encourage you to explore the various opportunities on this page then register yourself and your family to join us as we pursue discipleship in Christ wholeheartedly as a church.

River Valley School of Discipleship

Wednesdays | February 5-April 29 | 6:30-8:00pm

The River Valley School of Discipleship (RVSD) was created to provide our people with the solid biblical foundation they need to grow as disciples of Christ. The RVSD offers three different core classes every semester with each one falling under one of our Core Practices of BELIEVE + BELONG + BLESS. Each class will help us internalize our faith and connect it practically to our everyday lives. Our hope is that everyone who calls River Valley their church home will complete the classes in the RVSD as they seek to live as fully devoted disciples of Jesus - growing to love, trust and obey him more every day.

Spring 2020 Core Classes (Y1)

Reading & Interpreting Scripture

Join us this spring as Mark Moore, our Lead Pastor, teaches Reading & Interpreting Scripture in the River Valley School of Discipleship.

BELIEVE - Belong - Bless
Does the Bible intimidate you? Do you ever feel confused when reading it? Do you wish you understood how to read and interpret it better? This class will you provide you with greater confidence by teaching you basic Bible study skills. You will learn to discover what the text is saying, what it means, and how you are to respond. In addition to focusing on how to study the Bible, this class will also focus on why you should study the Bible—to know and love God in order to glorify him and enjoy him forever.

Please register and pay online to secure your seat in the class. Your $20 class fee will cover all resources for this class.

Spiritual Disciplines

Join us this spring as Christine Mester, Director of Pastoral Care, teaches Spiritual Disciplines in the River Valley School of Discipleship.

Believe - BELONG - Bless
Spiritual disciplines are those practices found in Scripture that promote growth in godliness among disciples of Jesus. We will study a selection of disciplines together including reading and studying Scripture, prayer, worship, evangelism, serving, fasting and more. 1 Timothy 4:7 tells us, “Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness. The goal is godliness and the biblical means is to discipline ourselves by the power of the Holy Spirit. Together we will study why spiritual disciplines are essential for a disciple of Jesus, how each one will help us grow, and learn practical ways for cultivating them on a long-term basis.

Please register and pay online to secure your seat in the class. Your $20 class fee will cover all resources for this class.

Worldview & Apologetics

Join us this spring as Shane McGrath, Pastor of Discipleship & Community Groups, teaches Worldview & Apologetics in the River Valley School of Discipleship.

Believe - Belong - BLESS
This class will focus on understanding and applying a consistently biblical worldview to all of life. The word “apologetics” simply means “to make a defense.” We need to know what we believe and why we believe it and meaningfully engage others with the truths of the gospel. We’ll look at various topics like atheism, gay marriage, and abortion and learn how to apply the foundational truths of Christianity to these important issues. We need to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you, to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (I Peter 3:15).

Please register and pay online to secure your seat in the class. Your $20 class fee will cover all resources for this class.

Student Discipleship

All students 6th-12th grade are invited to join us at our weekly Wednesday gathering where we spend the evening in worship, growing in community, and learning from God's Word together! Come see how Jesus changes everything and loves you completely. Come and see what God is doing here at River Valley Church through a growing community of middle school and high school students.

Student Midweek begins January 8! Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm
Registration is not required for Student Midweek Discipleship.

Kids Discipleship & Childcare

We firmly believe in the validity of Scripture and the importance of it in our daily lives starting from a young age. This spring, we are excited to offer a midweek option for kids where we will continue the New City Catechism that began last fall. If your child was not registered for the first session, that’s ok! It’s not too late to get them involved!  The New City Catechism for Kids is a modern-day resource aimed at teaching the core doctrines of the Christian faith to children ages 4–11. This curriculum will be adapted and age-appropriate for your child. We encourage you to join us on these Wednesdays to begin to train up children in godliness, and be a part of setting them up for a thriving relationship with Jesus Christ for their entire lives. Childcare for Infants and Toddlers will be offered as well.
$20 per child with a $50 cap per family.

Midweek Serve Team

Our Midweek discipleship for kids can't happen without a team of people willing to invest their time into the next generation. If you think this might be just the thing you're looking to do on Wednesday nights, we can definitely get you connected with a flexible opportunity to pour gospel truths and God's love into our kids.

Men's Bible Study

Wednesdays | Starting February 5 | 6:30pm

This semester’s RV Men’s Ministry will participate in a study called Behold Your God: The Weight of Majesty. This powerful and life-changing course will show you what Scripture teaches us about God’s character. As we learn about and see God’s attributes, we see His holiness and majesty for what they truly are–and there is no way that we can remain the same after beholding Him! In addition to learning more about God’s attributes you’ll see how notable saints from church history were impacted by these great truths and how God used them to proclaim His Gospel. Please bring your Bible to class each week.

Women's Bible Study

Wednesdays | Starting February 5 | 6:30pm

RV Women's Bible Study teaches a method of studying the Bible and gives an opportunity to put that into practice with other women. Believing the Bible is a book about God, we seek to use our minds to know Him more so that our hearts can follow in loving him more deeply. The time together includes working through the text verse by verse both personally and corporately first, followed by seeking help from outside sources and closes with a time of teaching. This Spring, we will study the book of 1 Peter to prepare our minds for action and set our hope fully on the grace that will be brought to us at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13) Please bring your Bible to class each week.
